Cleopatra meets Matsieng face-to-face....
The final step took place with the release of Matsieng, and at about 3am the Two Brothers met up for the first time with Cleopatra and Tswalu at Hide Dam…
As expected there was some serious ‘fireworks’ between the brothers for dominance, with the lionesses scattering in different directions. After 3 intense physical engagements between Zukhara and Matsieng, with paws and claws flying, Zukhara was located lying peacefully with Cleopatra and Tswalu, with Matsieng lying nearby at a respectful distance in the riverbed. All 4 lions sustained minor cuts and puncture wounds to the body, whilst Zukhara and Matsieng both had a puncture wound to their paw and were limping slightly.
Later in the day, the 4 members of the newly integrated Tsau Pride were located together resting in the Zihra Riverbed. After sunset the pride roared together, and then the two lionesses decided to get mobile on a hunting mission, whilst the Brothers decided to go on a territorial patrol.
