What South Africa decides in managing our critical iconic animals will be closely monitored by global stakeholders. She commended the Minister\u2019s decisive commitment to dismantle South Africa\u2019s notorious captive lion industry, while recognizing the monumental and tragic task that lies ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Linda identified that the restoration of lions to their rightful role in Nature will be one of the key milestones in humankinds\u2019 conservation history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Going forward, she emphasized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How do we move from \u201c<strong>The Con<\/strong>\u201d to \u201c<strong>The Serve<\/strong>\u201d in con<strong><em>serv<\/em><\/strong>ation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The focus has to shift from hunting to service, and from exploitation to regeneration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Linda encouraged the Minister to incorporate in her strategy new-paradigm funding models that are leading global conservation today, which respect&nbsp;<strong>Indigenous<\/strong>&nbsp;methodologies andhonour iconicanimals as a&nbsp;<em>living<\/em>&nbsp;heritage within the minds and hearts of humanity, and thereby&nbsp;<em>truly<\/em>&nbsp;benefit all stakeholders, <em>including<\/em>&nbsp;humankind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Linda was joined by traditional healers Sheila Khama, of the <strong>Mpemba Institute of African Traditional Healing and Spirituality<\/strong>, who asked for prayers for our lions over this time, and Rutendo Ngara \u2013 <strong>Founder of the Credo Mutwa Foundation,<\/strong> who spoke on the importance of service in Indigenous knowledge systems. Referencing the <strong>Worldwide Indigenous People\u2019s Governance Charter, <\/strong>Rutendo emphasized that<em> \u201cHumanity cannot exist independently of Nature and therefore human law must be <strong>subservient<\/strong> to Nature\u2019s Law\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She emphasized from a <em>universal<\/em> Indigenous conservation perspective, iconic animals should be protected, not as commodities in cages nor stuffed on walls, but as a <em>living<\/em> heritage performing their unique vital roles <strong><em>both<\/em><\/strong> within the biodiversity of their natural ecosystem, and \u201calive and well\u201d within the hearts, minds &#8211; and souls &#8211; of humankind. Heritage animals are essential for the wellbeing of <strong><em>any culture<\/em><\/strong> that respects and celebrates Nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dominion-based models do not serve Nature\u2019s law.
