INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY #1:   FUNDRAISER / GRANT WRITER INTERNSHIP
 
The Global White Lion Protection Trust (WLT) is a leading non-profit organisation with a community-based conservation mission to protect the critically endangered white lions as global heritage for future generations. For over a decade, the WLT has successfully ensured the survival of the white lions against formidable odds, including legalized trophy hunting and illegal poaching. Their survival depends upon our acquisition of large protected areas of white lion endemic pridelands, awareness campaigns and continued protection for this rare and iconic animal. The WLT is seeking an Intern to live onsite, join our big cat- loving team, and assist in the following programmatic areas: fundraising, grant writing, policy research and development, for a minimum of 6 months and with potential of long-term employment; rustic accommodation off the grid (propane water heater, propane cooking facility, solar lighting) is provided. Access to the internet and electricity only at the base of operations / office.
 
Intern Duties Include:
• A primary role of the Fundraiser / Grant Writer Intern is to monitor, draft and assemble grants;
• The next most important role of this intern is to initiate, draft and follow-up on fundraising campaigns for the WLT as an NPO
• Spearhead and manage Global Giving Campaigns to fundraise for specific projects online
• Conduct strategic partnership and development outreach, under guidance of the CEO and Head of Operations
• Draft Facebook and social media posts and potentially administer social media accounts
• Assist resident lion ecologist, Jason Turner, with policy and scientific research; for example, assist with research on lion trophy hunting, white lion predator-prey study, and campaigns to have the white lion protected by law according to IUCN and CITES
• Field communications and media inquiries regarding press coverage and photo use; draft press releases
• Conduct development outreach based on guidance from Linda Tucker, CEO & Founder
• Update and use Trimble device for scientific data management and analysis
 
Intern Qualifications:
• Experience and ideally a qualification/s in fundraising and / or grant writing
• General understanding of digital platforms and experience learning online applications; ideally, familiar with WordPress, MailChimp and Global Giving
• Understanding of conservation issues and environmental policy with desire to learn more about big cat policy issues and conservation science
• Well-written with proven expertise in summarizing various written content with precision and efficacy
• Excellent computer and digital media skills and experience using Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms
• Experience working closely with executive level management and excels under time constraints
• Interest in nature and willingness to live closely with the wild beauty of the African bushveld
• International drivers license and ability to drive manual transmission required
• Graduate degree (completed or ongoing) preferred
• Minimum 6 month commitment with potential for long-term employment

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY #2:   IT INTERNSHIP

For over a decade, the WLT has successfully ensured the survival of the white lions against formidable odds, including legalized trophy hunting and illegal poaching. Their survival depends upon our acquisition of large protected areas of white lion endemic pridelands, eco-education awareness campaigns, community development programs, and continued protection for this rare and iconic animal and their natural endemic habitat. The WLT is seeking an Intern to live onsite, join our big cat- loving team, and assist in the following programmatic areas: IT implementation, administration and support for the WLT’s base of operations, for a minimum of 6 months and with potential of long-term employment; rustic accommodations is provided.
 
IT Intern Duties Include:
• Manage WLT website using WordPress and update content, drafted by WLT leadership
• Draft Facebook and social media posts and potentially administer social media accounts
• Assist the CEO, Linda Tucker, with IT related setting-up of Media Presentations, Fundraising Proposals, Enviro-Conference Presentations, YouTube clips etc.
• Assist resident lion ecologist, Jason Turner, with IT related setting-up and problem-solving on various platforms used for lion research data capture, analysis and processing (eg. ArcView, ArcGIS, Cybetracker, Pear Technology Digital Mapping etc.)
• Update and use Trimble Nomad / Juno (Data Capture) device for scientific data management and analysis
• Assist with general IT queries from staff and software updates

 
Technical Qualifications:
• Excellent computer and digital media skills and experience using Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms
• Detailed knowledge of HTML / HTML 5 – JavaScript and other programming languages a plus.
• Detailed knowledge of the WordPress website platform. (Needed for current website maintenance.)
• Proficiency in Photoshop and InDesign or Illustrator needed. (Or comparable photo editing or design software.)
• Proficiency in social marketing, online marketing, and email marketing industry and platforms.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong Excel knowledge in addition to proficiency in Microsoft Access a plus. Data analytics and report building is needed periodically.
• Strong technical trouble shooting skills required. Periodic assistance is needed to troubleshoot both common PC / MAC hardware and software issues. Basic computer networking knowledge is needed as well.
• Knowledge of mobile / GPS platforms a plus. Troubleshooting issues related to mobile phones and devices is periodically needed.
• Experience working closely with executive level management and excels under time constraints
• Interest in nature and willingness to live closely with the wild beauty of the African bushveld

 
Other Qualifications Required:
• International drivers license and ability to drive manual transmission required
• Graduate degree (completed or ongoing) preferred
• Minimum 6 month commitment with potential for long-term employment
